Welch Allyn® Introduces Master Elite™ Stethoscope with Patented Sensor Technology

New Stethoscope Uses Meditron® Sensor-based Technology to Improve Doctor’s Ability to Detect Faint Sounds

Welch Allyn, Inc., one of the world’s leading manufacturers of medical diagnostic instruments and patient monitoring systems, today announced the introduction of the Welch Allyn Master Elite Stethoscope. This innovative new product utilizes patented Meditron sensor technology that reduces the effect of ambient noise and resonance associated with conventional stethoscopes, making it easier for doctors to hear faint crackles, wheezes, low diastolic murmurs, or high-pitched pulmonary sounds.

The Welch Allyn Master Elite Stethoscope includes a highly sensitive sensor with a frequency range of 20-20,000 hertz and an excellent signal-to-noise ratio. There is a two-position frequency selection switch that makes it possible to focus specifically on either high (diaphragm mode) or low (bell mode) frequencies. In addition, there is a variable volume control selector that offers powerful amplification, even in noisy environments.

“The patented sensor technology used in the Master Elite is similar to technology used to detect submarines deep in the sea,” said Lari Shreffler, associate product manager at Welch Allyn. “Contrary to other electronic stethoscopes that use a microphone, the Master Elite allows healthcare practitioners hear more of the sounds they need, and less of the sounds they don’t.”

Optional analyzer software enables the audio signal to be transferred to a PC where the sound can be stored and replayed as required. The recording can be saved in the patient’s record and compared with later recordings. The analyzer software can also convert sound files into graphic representations. In addition, a distributor unit is also available that allows several stethoscopes to be linked together so that a number of people can listen to the same patient simultaneously. This “co-listening” ability is a key feature that helps in consultation or teaching situations.

The Welch Allyn Master Elite weighs only 16 ounces and its adjustable binaurals and ear tips provide all-day comfort.
